Maharashtrains in the western and central part of India are celebrating Gudi Padwa & in the Northern states, the Festival of Chaitra Navratri brings happiness & joy to those celebrating . Navreh, the beginning of the New Year is being celebrated by the Kashmiri Pandits and Today is also the eve of the Sindhi Festival Cheti Chand.

The Common thread that binds these PEARLS of FESTIVITIES is that they are all Celebrated in honor of NEW BEGINNINGS of LIFE – The SEASON of SPRING is being acknowledged through these Celebrations.  Mother Earth - GreenAll these Festivals marks the arrival of “SPRING” – which denotes HAPPY TIMES – Flowers are in bloom again & the melody of Birds chirping fills the air. HAPPY TIMES are HERE to STAY !!!

J 🙂 Y reigns EVERYWHERE

Now let us get back to the Purpose behind this POST – Allow me to SHARE with you an interesting CONNECT that I have been GIFTED through the FESTIVAL that I am CELEBRATING TODAY !!!

TODAY marks a DAY of Happiness & Joy for me as I belong to the the Sindhi Community

Cheti Chand – The most auspicious festival of the Sindhi Community, also refereed to as  “Jhulelal Jayanti” will begin its celebrations TODAY. This year, according to the Drik Panchang (Religious Calender ) the Dwitiya tithi (Divine Date)  for Cheti Chand is as follows…

Dvitiya Tithi Begins at 17:28:39 on March 25, 2020

Dvitiya Tithi Ends at 19:55:17 on March 26, 2020

So ideally, it can be said that Cheti Chand is celebrated on the day of the “New Moon” and falls on the day after the festivals of Ugadi & Gudi Padwa.Jhulelai Sindhis all over celebrate this DAY with great enthusiasm as it marks the BIRTH of their Savior Saint – Jhulelal – who Blessed them with a NEW START of LIFE – Sindhis rejoice & celebrate this auspicious occasion of festivity as a ‘Thanks Giving Day’ even till today.

Legends have it as…During the 10th century in Sindh – There was a time when the Sindh Province faced come challenges. To overcome these days of trial, the Sindhi Community prayed to the river God to protect them in these TIMES of DARKNESS & TRIALS.

To the people of Sindh, the river Indus also titled “Sindhu” was the source of LIFE – akin to God as it assisted them in their Trade & Travel & Livelihood. The Sindhis worshiped it as a form of Deity and prayed to the river God to protect them from the evil forces.

It is stated that their prayers were heard after Forty days of worship. River God promised them that the divine child would be born to save them from the tyrant. The child was born on the second day of the Chaitra month & was known as Saint Jhulelal. Ever since then, the Sindhi community worships the “WATER” & take Jhulelal to be an avatar of the Varun (God of Water). “Uderolal” is yet another name for Jhulelal.

On the occasion of “Cheti Chand” procession of Jhulelal is taken out by Sindhis in different corners of the word. The Sindhis worship water as it is the elixir of life. Cheti ChandSpecial Foods of the Sindhi Community are relished on this Special Day. As an offering – a Special Sweet is prepared on this auspicious day.

So what is the Uniqueness of this Festival and is there any lessons that one can hold on to… ???

YES of course … Wisdom of Life is masked beneath the Rituals that are an important aspect of any Festival. Our quintessential Sindhi Ishtadeva Jhulelal is known and worshiped across religious groups. The link that connects these religious groups is singular – “The Water worship”. The Sindhi community worships the “WATER” and that is where the awareness of Bliss resides 🙂

Water holds a significant position in the cultural existence of the Sindhi community Today as we look forward to the grand festivities of the day…May we reminiscence the message of our Saint “Uderolal” deeply in our Souls – For only then will the TRUE Festivities begin…Sai LalWater plays an IMPORTANT Role in all the Rituals associated with Sindhi culture – and thus offering are made to WATER on this day, seeking BLESSING to be INSPIRED by WATER – Our saint “Uderolal” further clarifies the purpose of adopting the nature of “WATER”

Water has the temperament of FLOWING – Water flows constantly…That is WHY it is termed as the Essentials of LIFE – With its ability to FLOW  continuously, it supports the many forms of LIFE that are dependent on it – SHOULD it stops to an OBSTACLE – A ROCK – A WALL…LIFE comes to a STANDSTILL 😦

The STANDING WATER is of no use as it becomes stagnant over a period of time & within it every Living forms dies…

Life flourishes when WATER flows ~~~Be the Flow Joy unfolds in its movement

That is how LIFE thrives !!!

Many a times in the journey of our life, we feel lost & confused… Obstacles & unexpected turns come in the way of our JOURNEYS – Frighten we get & then we STOP – The flow of LIFE gets BLOCKED & our journey come to a “Standstill”

Our Life is too like WATER with a MISSION to nourish the LIFE of those who are a part of us – To STOP is to kill the ones who are a part of this life 😦 We think we are LIVING but in the real sense we are just getting stagnant…

TIME is Passing & Yet we are not in MOVEMENT…and this to me is DISRESPECT to our Creator 😦Stagnant water Why “Stagnant” & be the reason for “regret” in the eyes of God.

To keep ourselves in the “FLOW” is what needs to be done at all times in our JOURNEY… Never must we get caught up in the Obstacles that come to bind us & stop us … Come what may … Let us aspire to be the FLOW ~~~~

Let us live LIFE like the Free Flowing Pure Water ~~~FLOWFor that is what contributes to the FRESHNESS of LIFE

Such are the GEMSTONES concealed in our FESTIVALS – Indeed a Profound Awareness & a Fabulous Lesson to hold on in LIFE, we Sindhis are GIFTED.

One must always keep flowing in the Journeys of Life or stagnation is CERTAIN – This is why our Ishtadeva Jhulelal wants us to forever stay CONNECTED to WATER – We are taught through our FESTIVALS to be INSPIRED by it – Adopt the nature of “WATER” – which is to be “Free Flowing” always…Forgetting the past & its challenges – Moving ahead – Making  time for New learnings & Discoveries – Enriching the life of those who are with us TODAY.

“Keep moving like the Water” is the important message that our “Ishtadeva” expresses to us through his life…Uderolal‘Jhulela kar beda par’- A humble request to guide us & make it possible for us reach the shores safely !!!

May we all remember that we are all God’s children. Forever let us have TRUST in the trails HE sets us upon – May FAITH in HIM be always in our Heart. And though sometimes, darkness may seem as an Obstacle – Only God know that this too is an opportunities that makes the STARS visible 🙂

DARKNESS & DELAYS & CHAOS & CONFUSIONS are the the tags that we put on the to the OPPORTUNITIES HE gives – Keep flowing & we shall make it to the DESTINY we so truly DESERVE.Rivers to Ocean

Today as the celebrations of Cheti Chand continue & we look forward to NEW JOURNEYS…let us take a pledge to be just like the WATER…Forever FLOWING must be our SPIRIT…

May YOU & I Celebrate this “Cheti Chand” with this Connect…Let this LIFE start flowing with positive thoughts from now onwards…for only those who sail comfortably across the sea of Life are the worshipers of Uderolal.Sai LalWishing those celebrating a Blessed & Blissful Cheti Chand. Let us make efforts to forget our FEARS & start flowing with OPTIMISTIC BELIEFS from this Cheti Chand.

With the start of this New Sindhi Year

May We always keep Smiling…
May We get success in all our endeavors…
May We give & receive respect by our loved ones…
May We all be Blessed with the Blessings of Almighty.
